【論文】世界人口の0.5%の男性がモンゴルのチンギス・ハンに由来する遺伝子を受け継いでいる

2003年の研究を紹介します。アジアの広い地域で珍しい特徴をもつ遺伝子のY染色体が分布しており、この地域の男性8%(世界の0.5%)がこの系統を持っていることを発見しました。

The pattern of variation within the lineage suggested that it originated in Mongolia ∼1,000 years ago. Such a rapid spread cannot have occurred by chance; it must have been a result of selection. The lineage is carried by likely male-line descendants of Genghis Khan, and we therefore propose that it has spread by a novel form of social selection resulting from their behavior.
